3 Culprits Behind a Sagging Roof

A good roof should be straight as an arrow, however, it is not uncommon for your roof to sag over time. If you notice that your roof is sagging, then it should definitely be a cause for concern. While you may not be in any immediate danger, a sagging roof, if left alone can lead to a possible collapse that can endanger the rest of your home’s structure and cause severe injuries and even fatalities.

In today’s post, expert roofing contractors Easton Roofing shares the three main culprits behind a sagging roof.

1. Water Damage

An average roof will deal with thousands of gallons of water runoff in the course of its lifetime. Even with a properly installed roof, water has an uncanny ability to find its way into places where it doesn’t belong. Over time, this moisture can create the perfect environment for mold and mildew to grow, weakening your roof’s structure and causing it to sag.

2. Excess Weight

All roofs are constructed to withstand a certain amount of weight. However, there are instances where your roof will be forced to carry a load that is simply too much for it to take. For example, if your area records a record amount of snow, the excess weight of accumulated snowfall on your roof can cause a tremendous amount of stress on your roof and cause it to sag. When this happens, roof repair experts recommend that you rake off the excess snow and call a professional right away to do an inspection.

3. Old Age

Even the highest quality roof that is religiously maintained will not last forever. If your roof is nearing the end of its service life, a combination of different factors will all contribute to the weakening of the entire structure. When your roof begins to show signs of weakening, it is best to start thinking about having it replaced.
