An Improperly Installed Concrete Tile Roof Failing a Historic Church

The original concrete tile roof at Holy Trinity Catholic Church had been installed improperly, and the consequences had compounded over time into widespread leaks and a rotted substrate beneath the tile system. On a 43,000 square foot structure of this age and architectural significance, a failing roof is not just a maintenance problem. Water working its way through an improperly installed tile system and into the substrate of a historic church causes damage that extends well beyond the roof itself, threatening the structural integrity of the building and the interior finishes that define its character.

The scale of the substrate damage meant that a simple repair was not viable. The church needed a full reroof executed with the precision and material quality that a building of this significance demands.

Davinci Synthetic Slate Reroof with Custom Copper Flashing and Collection Boxes

Easton installed a Davinci synthetic slate roofing system across the full 43,000 square foot roof, replacing the failed concrete tile with a material that replicates the architectural character of natural slate while delivering superior long-term durability and weather resistance. Custom copper flashing was installed throughout the roof system, providing watertight transitions at every penetration, valley, and edge detail.

The existing copper gutters were repaired and brought back to proper function, and custom fabricated copper collection boxes were installed to complete the system. Flat roof sections were fully replaced to ensure watertight coverage across the entire building envelope. The project required two months of precise, coordinated work to execute correctly on a structure of this complexity and profile.

A Roof Built to Last for Generations on a Prairie Village Landmark

Holy Trinity Catholic Church now has a roof system built to serve the congregation for generations. The Davinci synthetic slate delivers the architectural appearance that a historic Prairie Village church of this stature requires while providing a level of long-term durability that the original concrete tile never achieved. The custom copper work throughout the system, from the flashing details to the fabricated collection boxes, gives the roof the craftsmanship appropriate to the building.

The rotted substrate issues that had caused the widespread leaking have been fully corrected, and the complete replacement of all flat roof sections means every part of the building envelope is now watertight. This is the kind of project that defines what a roofing contractor is capable of at the highest level of the trade.
